The Crew Behind ‘loverbooth’

The Crew Behind: loverbooth

At Photobooth Design Co., we love shining a light on the talented people who make up Australia’s photobooth community. Through our “The Crew Behind” series, we’ve been chatting with both new and established booth owners across the country to hear about their journey — from how they got started, to the challenges they’ve faced, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.

In today’s post, we’re excited to introduce Rhiannon Miller, the creative force behind loverbooth in South Australia. With over a decade of experience as a wedding videographer, Rhiannon brings a unique eye for storytelling and style into the photobooth space. Her background in capturing weddings has given her a natural advantage in understanding events — and her distinctive approach puts her firmly in the spotlight for this edition.

This is her story, in her own words.

What’s your “how it all started” story—was it a random idea, a party epiphany, or something you always dreamed of?

It all started with my own 30th birthday party! I really wanted a photo booth to capture the fun, and during my Googling, I stumbled across some info about actually purchasing a photo booth business—and it lit a spark. At the time, I’d been a wedding videographer for 10 years and was starting to feel ready for something fresh that could complement my existing work in the wedding industry. That accidental discovery turned into an unexpected but exciting new path for me!

What did you do before photobooths, and how did that shape how you run your business now?

Before diving into the world of photo booths, I spent over a decade working as a wedding videographer. It gave me a solid understanding of how weddings and events flow, which was a huge advantage when launching my own booth business. I already had strong relationships in the South Australian wedding scene, which made getting started a little less daunting. That said, I definitely underestimated how much work goes into running a photo booth business! If I’d known the level of logistics, setup, admin, and client care involved… I might have had second thoughts! But it’s been so rewarding, and I love how the booth has opened up new opportunities for me.

Ever had a total tech fail or “please let the ground swallow me” moment? How’d you bounce back?

Yes! One of my very first gigs was a free trial setup in a nightclub. I couldn’t figure out why the flash wouldn’t fire, and it took me way too long to realize the camera couldn’t focus because the venue was just so dark. My quick-fix solution? I manually triggered the flash for every single photo the whole night. It was stressful, sweaty, and definitely one of those “what have I done?!” moments—but I got through it, and then afterwards did a lot of research on how to ensure it didn’t happen again!

What’s one tool, app, or hack you couldn’t live without?

Studio Ninja, hands down. It’s my go-to for managing automated emails and workflows. It saves me so much time on the admin side—sending contracts, payment reminders, pre-event info—it all just runs like clockwork. Also Canva is so easy to use for designing Photo Strip designs!

If you could only have one type of prop in your photo booth for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Cute glasses! The bigger, sillier, and more sparkly the better—especially ones with jewels or sequins. They’re always the first thing guests grab, and they never fail to get a laugh. They just bring instant energy to any group, and give the more reserved guests something to hide behind haha

What’s a creative risk you took that totally paid off?

I added mini claw machine hire to my photo booth offerings—and honestly, people are obsessed. It’s such a unique and nostalgic element that gets everyone talking and interacting. It was a bit of a wild card at first, but it’s become one of my most-loved add-ons.

What backdrop do you love most, and what backdrop do you find is the most popular amongst all your events?

Personally, I’m obsessed with the sparkly ones. My favourite is this gorgeous iridescent violet and aqua combo—it catches the light beautifully and adds so much glam. But when it comes to bookings, silver is by far the most popular. It’s timeless, matches almost any theme, and photographs so well. Honestly, I love that one too.

Where do the majority of your enquiries come from—Instagram, Google, word of mouth, wedding expos?

When I first started, most of my bookings came from word of mouth and people who had seen the booth at previous events. But lately, Google has been a big one—which is great to see! It means my SEO work is paying off, and I’m reaching new people outside of my existing networks.

As a business owner, what has been your biggest challenge, and how did you overcome it?

Time management—by far. I run two businesses, both of which need constant attention: admin, marketing, gear maintenance, schedule planning, contractor coordination… and that’s before I even show up for the job! Studio Ninja has definitely helped lighten the admin load, but beyond that, it’s been a case of trial and error, refining my systems, and figuring out what’s worth my time. I’m still learning as I go, but I’m getting better at working smarter, not harder.
